6 Web Trends to Watch Grow

29 September 2014

2015 has been an interesting year for web designers. At the end 2014 we were gifted with html 5, which began the tidal-wave effect of the responsive website layouts. Then Google rebranded themselves, what more could we ask for?

Well, we believe in being ahead of the game. That’s why we've written up some of the largest web design trends that are starting to reveal themselves!

1.Everything looks…the same?

That’s right, most designs out on the web feature the same elements, and layouts. For example the “hamburger menu". Everyone has seen it and experienced its simplistic, intuitive, brilliance. For those who aren’t familiar with the hamburger menu, it is the compressed version of every responsive menu, or the three little lines on the top right-side of your Facebook app. The same goes for all of the pop-up blocks, horizontal scrolling website, card like layouts and the “Hero Images”, the massive landing page images. This is great for user interactivity, allowing them to use learned responses across a variety of different websites.

2.    Animations
Every site is now full of subtle animations. From a box changing colour while you hover over it, to a simple rotating loading icon, they’re everywhere. Mini animations are great because they’re not expected, which make them memorable in the user’s eyes, which could subsequently drive more traffic your way.

3.    Microinterations
“Micro. . .what?” You may not know the definition of the word, but we can assure you that you have experienced them.  A Microinteration is the slightest interaction you have with an interface. For example, following someone on twitter, or unlocking your phone’s passcode key....an instantaneous reaction between you and a device (mobile, tablet, computer). You can find these on any site, we promise. They’re the perfect way to interact with a user, for example: filling out a feedback form, continuing to another page, or liking your business’s social media pages. Just one little click!

4.    Material Design
Google has proven themselves AMAZING, yet again. Material design is, basically, a manifesto by Google’s designers to promote refined, depth-filled design for web and UI. You can read more here.

5.    Responsive design
Of course, we have to mention responsive design, its hard to find any websites now that haven’t been updated to html 5. Basically, a responsive website is one that resizes automatically from desktop to tablet and mobile devices. And it is popular! Most websites

6.    Flat Design
That’s right, the last major themes of this year is making sure your website is using the flat design aesthistic. Now don’t take this theme literally, flat design doesn’t mean everything is straight on the page, and has no depth whatsoever. The truth about the flat design technique is it appears as a flat and minimalistic design, but actually has a lot of complex variables, like long shadows, bright colours, and simple typography.
